What are the best online jobs for travel bloggers?

Introduction

Are you a travel blogger? Do you want to make money with your travel blog? It’s not easy… I will tell you that from my own experience. You need to treat it like a business. It takes some time and funds to start. That’s why it’s recommended to find a remote job or freelance projects to cover your living expenses. I will share with you the best online jobs for travel bloggers.

Travel blogging

Do you have already travel blog posts? You can create packages and reach out to niche websites, online stores, or local hotels. Think about 10 travel blog posts about Thailand for a hostel in Bangkok or 5 travel blog posts about surfing for a surf school. Another way is to find freelance jobs on Fiverr, Upwork, LinkedIn, Facebook groups, or Indeed so you can explore what the market wants and offer your travel blogging services.

SEO writing

It’s important for many companies & brands in the tourism and travel industry to be found on the Google search engine. A better position on the first page means more traffic to the website which leads to profitable revenue. As a travel blogger, you can offer SEO consultation for hotels, tourism boards, car rentals, airlines, cruises, travel gear shops, and tour operators.

Travel writing

Do you want to bring travel blogging to another level? You can dive into the world of travel writing. Think about travel or tourism-related articles for online websites, travel magazines, or travel guides. If you have a travel blog it’s a great portfolio to get started. However, the best way is to start pitching. Send out at least 5 emails daily. I was able to get featured in The Columbus Magazine by reaching out to them.

Copywriting

Do you understand the psychology of sales? Maybe copywriting is a great fit for you as a travel blogger. You can write travel blog posts that contain links to affiliate products, e-commerce, or online services. The goal is to convince the reader to make a purchase by providing valuable content & action triggers to close the deal. I wrote some copy for a marketing agency as a freelance job.

Translating

As a travel blogger you know probably more than one language. Translating is a great way to fill your wallet. You can do it online using Skype, Zoom, or WhatsApp video chat. Find a remote job in a high-currency country. My favorite way is to translate website content into another language. Think about hotels, and retreats that want to reach a specific audience.

Ghostwriting

That’s my least favorite way to earn money as a travel blogger because you are a ghost… However, if someone wants you to write an ebook, create a guide, or develop a course it can be a very profitable way to earn a decent income while you are on the road. I have experience with a ghostwriting project by creating an online course for a home education company. The payment was 4000 euros for the project so I could stay 3 months in Peru.

Content marketing

Imagine writing blogs, newsletters, advertisements, or posts for social media. That’s the job of a content marketeer that gives you the opportunity to work remotely from your favorite exotic location. Content marketing can be also creating videos, reels, podcasts, audio, infographics, thumbnails, or pictures. I create at the moment content for a food producer company.

Social media management

As a travel blogger, you are probably social media savvy with platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Many companies look for people who would like to manage their social channels. As a travel blogger, you have the skills, and creativity to create content calendars, post content, and reply to comments. Personally, I’m able to get a stable monthly salary from a big food producer by managing an Instagram account.

Language teaching

Do you speak more languages? As a travel blogger, it can be helpful to speak local languages, and global tongues like English, Spanish, Chinese, and French. Are you bilingual? Perfect! That means you can teach online and be able to cover your travel expenses. Personally, I teach Dutch by offering group courses, private classes, integration coaching, video courses, and ebooks. You can earn between 2000 – 3000 euros per month.

Travel journalism

Are you someone who knows where to find news or remarkable content? You can become a travel journalist. Think about reporting about politics in another country or just writing travel articles for a travel magazine. There are many possibilities. Maybe you can reach out to some niche websites that would like to get more media exposure. PR consultation can be also a great way to earn money as a travel journalist.

Okay I will! It would be cool to connect with more travel mags or write for people who would pay me.

That’s an awesome idea. I would recommend learning more about commercial writing like copywriting, SEO blogging, and content marketing that pays well. You can also find a permanent travel blogging job for a travel magazine. Check out Fiverr, Upwork, Indeed, and LinkedIn or reach out directly to brands. I will do my best to create a more specific blog post how to connect with travel mags. 🙂
